. . . started the whole thing. Guitar players doing the “heavy” thing, the three-piece groups, and the whole hard-rock sound all came from that one man. Jimi was a genius. Genius is only 10% inspiration and 90% hard work. I really do think that Hendrix was the guitar innovator in rock, and anybody who doesn’t tell you that they were influenced by him, all the nouveau-type guitar players like Van Halen - who are they trying to kid? We wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing, with the wang bars and the feedback and the heavy amps and all that shit, if it weren’t for Jimi Hendrix.
