It was through my guitar teacher, Leroy Wright. He was a huge Hendrix guy. From the mothership of Jimi, he turned me on to everybody else—Robin Trower, Frank Marino and guys like that. Then you go further back and you hear Buddy and the Kings—Albert. B.B., Freddie. It’s interesting when you go through the family tree. Jimi didn’t start it, but he’s like one of the most important roots. You look at him and say, “Well, where did he get it from?” So you do your history and find out.
