I had tremendous respect for him. To me, he is still way, way above any other guitar player who has ever been. Not just technically - everything; feeling-wise, and he could use gimmicks, really make them work for him. We never actually sat around and talked about the meaning of life or the wife and kids; it was always pretty much music. To me, Jimi could play the blues as well as anybody in the world when he wanted to. . . . We really learned from a lot of the same guys, like Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters.
