It’s just that he’s very, very, soulful: he’s just so soulful. I don’t think anybody’s quite brought that kind of sound out before - not from that deep. He was playing the blues, but he was taking it somewhere else. He’s one-of-a-kind, like Albert King, like Hubert Sumlin. He had great technique, but it really isn’t about that. Like one note meant so much - he could play flurries as well as any guitarist, but it was what he did with one note that mattered the most.
