We were spaced constantly. I fully admit that drugs controlled our music. Whether it was true or not, we felt we had to be stoned to play properly. Good dope equaled good music. It was lovely music to get spaced to. A good high allowed you to fuse better and generate a feeling that lived outside the players. This is what the audiences wanted - every night. Not just good music but a good buzz, too.
