By the end of the 1960's, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton had turned the rock 'n' roll generation on its collective head. Of course, that would not have been possible without the music created by the great black blues players such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Fred McDowell, Buddy Guy, and the great B.B. King. . . . Jimi was a beautiful guitar player. He wasn’t very schooled; he had a limited knowledge, as far as musical harmony is concerned. But he had such an imagination that he made up for it. And that’s what makes things happen, because if you get a guy with all knowledge and no imagination, he doesn’t play anything. Knowledge helps, but I’m not saying knowledge is it. . . .
