We sort of got to know each other, hanging around backstage and stuff, and after that week finished Jimi came back in and said, ‘Can I come back and play with you?’ I fell on the floor and then I picked myself up. And I said, ‘Sure!’ so he did and mostly I played piano and he played guitar, and he sat down. I’d never seen him do this before or since. And it was probably a strange experience for him to play with a woman. In folk, there were a lot of women, but not in rock ‘n’ roll. He sat down and he didn’t try to steal the show, and he didn’t do all his gyrating or anything. And he played very gently and very sensitive, and it really was an experience. Anybody that got hold of him sensed that he’d be very famous. He was shy and very withdrawn, he didn’t speak a lot and music was everything to him.
