When Jimi first came to England, Chas Chandler had put the word out that he'd found this phenomenal guitar player in New york, and he could play guitar behind his head and with his teeth and everything. The buzz was out before Jimi had even been seen here, so people were anticipating his performance, and he more than lived up to what we were expecting. When he sat in with you, he would just fall right into whatever you were doing. He was just a natural musician and I don't think upstaging was any part of his persona. He loved to play, he dug music and he loved the attention he was getting.
