John Hammond John Hammond

I think the most unique thing about Jimi’s playing was the fact that he could, when he was onstage, improvise absolutely from the spirit - it came right through him, he just magically knew how to do it, when he was on. I don’t think he would ever have been able to tell anyone how he did it, y’know, it was just something that came through him, inspired him. He was incredibly facile. Anything he could hear, he could play. He was an amazing guy, on his own trip, and totally himself. I don’t think he had any one cause, or discriminated between white or black or blues or jazz or anything. He did just what he liked to do and went his own way.
